EGO, 2010–2012
The work began during Andris Marackovskis’ Erasmus studies in Porto, where he made a single head. Using a silicone mould, he began deforming the same face into different characters. They all come from the same form, yet gradually become different — much like people, who begin alike but over time choose their own roles and places in life.
The installation functions as a fountain. Water flows from the mouths, noses, ears and eyes of the plaster heads, collecting in a single pool before being pumped back through them again. Over time, the circulating water slowly damages the plaster, changing and eroding the faces.
The work later received the Brederlo–von Sengbusch Art Prize.
